Leader and Depression

Updated: Oct 15, 2021

Leader - a person who has commanding authority or influence

Depression - a mood disorder marked especially by sadness, inactivity, difficulty in thinking and concentration, a significant increase or decrease in appetite and time spent sleeping, feelings of dejection and hopelessness, and sometimes suicidal tendencies

Being a leader is a calling. Everyone can't be a leader. I believe that leaders are born. A manager can be taught how to be a manager but it is a God given talent in being a leader. Now many ppl will try to be a leader but with no success. There is also a difference between Leader, Manager and Influencer. The Manager and Influencer are able to teach and oversee a group, company or organization, but lead or grow individuals or groups.

The stress of a leader is super serious. Being a leader comes with stress, responsibilities and depression. Leaders are truly born, not made. Oh yeah! depression. When you are a good leader you will see yourself standing alone...Being a leader is a very challenging. Depression is said to have taken over 350 million people in this country. I personally, think that is probably low, I would have thought higher. I speak on this topic from experience. I have been a leader all my life and I have a very small group of ppl in my circle, extremely small. I am very spectacular of who is in my circle. I have just recently stepped out and spoke about having depression and anxiety. I have lived with this for over 30 years.

I didn't actually admit it, I mostly ignored it and tried to move forward. In doing that it caused me to have migraines and major aniexty issues. It is said that a leader is there for others to lean on and be motivated by but who do they lean on or who is their rock.

I fel that is a great question.... no answer tho. but I can give my opinion. which is that most leaders are alone and have to make time for themselves so that they can reenergize and deal with all the responsiblities that has been placed on them.

I know from my experience I have to have a few things that I do just to be able to deal with the responsiblities of being a leader. I workout which actually does give me energy and motivates me to deal with the obstacles that might come my way on a daily basis. I am learning to mediate and do yoga. Now these two are things that I am implementing into my routine in 2020. So I will let you know how it works for me.

I want to say that being a leader is a "calling" like those that are called to preach. I am not a preacher and many that know me would laugh if that was something I said I was called to be a preacher....LMAO. But I do believe that I have been called to do what I do as a leader. Being a leader you will deal with stress, good and bad. Again, you have to make sure that you make time for yourself to make sure you are able to serve others that you are called to leader.

We will talk more on my podcast about leaders and the affect that we have on those that follow us.

You walk in your greatness!!
